THE MERRY MONTH OF MAY

by Elspeth

The Bears in the Windows have celebrated some of May’s most memorable days, including May Day itself, complete with Maypole dancing, the General Election, when the Tories defied all the opinion polls to win an overall majority, the nostalgic 70th Anniversary of VE Day, the arrival of the army of SNP MPs at Westminster, the glorious Chelsea Flower Show, when the bears won several coveted Gold Medals, including one for the best bamboo and, finally, the State Opening of Parliament, a first for the bears, the one occasion, apart from her Coronation, when Her Majesty has the opportunity to wear the magnificent Imperial State Crown, which actually travels to Westminster in its very own coach!!

POPPY BEAR SAYING 'THANK YOU'

Last weekend was the 70th anniversary of VE Day when the whole country gave thanks to those ordinary people who did such extraordinary things that we might be free.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR THE LAB PARTY!

As you see, the Bears in the Windows have candidates standing from all the main political parties.  Most of them have had enough of the leader of the SNP and have hired the services of a fiercely patriotic Dalek to exterminate her!

If you still haven’t decided which party you’re going to vote for tomorrow and are tired of all the bickering, back-stabbing and vicious personal attacks, have you thought about the Lab Party?  Labs are blameless and good-natured, courageous and determined, neither the natural nor intentional enemy of anyone.  On the contrary, Labs are instinctively the friend of all, seeking every occasion to help and please.  They’re definitely not typical politicians, are they?

‘MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!’

by Elspeth

To Star Wars fans, the fourth of May is Star Wars Day celebrating possibly the biggest pop culture phenomenon of all time.

With the general election taking place in a few days, the phrase, ‘May the Fourth be with you!’ is extremely topical as it was first used on 4th May 1979 when the Tories placed an advert in the London Evening News to mark Margret Thatcher becoming the UK’s first woman Prime Minister.   The ad read, ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations!’  I wonder how the Tories will celebrate this year if David Cameron wins an outright majority on Thursday.

So far The Bears in the Windows haven’t celebrated Star Wars Day (I don’t think they ever will!) but, as you can see, they did all the traditional things on May Day when they crowned the May Queen and danced round a maypole.
